1. Overview

Every year there is a significant number of alumni from University of Peradeniya arriving in Victoria either as skilled migrants or post-grad students. It is well known that as soon as they step in Australia, they have to face several challenges including finding jobs and settling down. Many of us may be able to help these people in numerous ways, mostly at a personal level and however as a team of PUAAViC we can help them in a formal way to settle down smoothly in a foreign country which is a very rewarding thing to do.

2. Objectives

  1. To assist in the efforts of job-seeking migrants or those who have lost jobs of PUAAViC alumni in Victoria to find jobs or sources of income.
  2. To support new migrants from University of Peradeniya in their initial settlement.
  3. To build the image and goodwill of PUAAViC

3. Beneficiaries

  1. Incoming migrants of the University of Peradeniya and/or those who are stranded through redundancy and other forms of job loss
  2. Newly arrived alumni from the University of Peradeniya
  3. New post graduate students to Victoria from the University of Peradeniya
  4. Any family members of the above 1,2,3

All resourceful University of Peradeniya alumni and members in our PUAAViC community.   

5. Operational Methodology

  • Everyone from PUAAViC alumni can participate in this project according to their strengths and willingness to achieve the ultimate goal of helping out newly arrived Peradeniya graduates to settle down smoothly with their families and pursue their career pathways. The President and Secretary of the year will function as advisers of the committee. Once a request from needed alumni is received via webpage, secretary of PUAAViC circulates the information among the alumni via e-mail. Alumni who have the potential to help the applicant can commence communication with the applicant privately and explore the avenues of assistance
  • Organizing workshops for newcomers to address how to build a career in Australia and how to initiate finding jobs in Australia. Preparation of resume as per Australian templates, addressing selection criteria, interview questions, and tips, etc. are worthy topics to cover.
