Educational Resources Facilitation Project
The Educational Resources Facilitation Program brings together previous diverse initiatives to support pre-identified opportunities for PUAAViC to help address needs and gaps in educational resources for faculties, departments and students at the University. This is an ongoing active program.
Library Books
PUAAViC has provided many books required by the Faculty libraries. Books were donated by individual donors when the list was sent around and the rest were purchased by PUAAViC. The books were handed over at a ceremony held at the Peradeniya University. |
Equipment for Prof. D.P.M. Weerakkody Resource Unit for Special Needs Students
Following a request by the late Prof. Weerakkody himself, PUAAViC mobilised to raise and donate a sum of $2830 to purchase “Picture In A Flash” (PIAF) equipment for the unit. This equipment fulfilled a long-felt need of vision-impaired students as it converts pictures, graphs, maps etc. to a tactile form that can be read by such students in a similar way to reading text using brail. PUAAViC also subsequently donated four digital recorders to the unit. |
DNA Sequencing Machine for Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
When the Dept. of Medicine of the University of Melbourne at the Austin Hospital upgraded their DNA sequencing machine, Dr. Chandana Herath persuaded the University to donate the replaced machine to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Peradeniya. PUAAViC, together with the Association of Agriculture and Veterinary Alumni mobilised to raise $1500 required to ship the machine to Sri Lanka. |
Instrument Boxes for the Faculty of Engineering
PUAAViC, with help from Engineering Alumni from around the world, donated drawing instruments to the Faculty of Engineering. The total cost of the project was A$ 3,566. The Association contributed A$ 1,150 collected from a Youth Concert held in 2006 towards this donation. The balance was collected from 32 Engineering Alumni from Victoria, NSW, Queensland, WA, Brunei, Canada and USA. |
